Episode 8 Season 6 – Fitness Boxing 2

Welcome to Frozen History 7 Book Reviews I am your host Andrea Menzies. This is the Episode for Tuesday the 18th 2023. You may be asking yourself why is this a book review podcast, and Fitness Boxing 2 by Nintendo is the title of a video game series? How does it qualify as a book commentary? Well the original focus of this podcast was comparing and contrasting books, video games, and movies particularly of Harry Potter. A prime example of how books, games, and movies are no longer separate publications. In this review I take the book Pokemon Black and White Volume 1. by Hidenori Kusaka and Satoshi Yamamoto, compare it to Nintendo’s Pokemon game and marketing on Fitness Boxing 2. There is a mass-hallucination on the Internet that Nintendo Switch Lite can NOT play fitness games, or dance games! Wrong is this theory. I have a Nintendo Switch AND a Switch Lite. You can buy extra controllers for $20 on Amazon if you have a broken controller or a Switch Lite. Then you can sync the controllers TO the Switch Lite, and use them in games that need controllers. I did this on the Switch Lite for the game and it worked great. The ONE thing the FULL Switch has is an HDMI cable port so you can use it one a computer screen or TV. You can’t stream games on the computer to record them on Lite. You can’t listen to audio on TV so dance and musical fitness games are quiet. Move super close to the screen and speakers, and the programs are still usable. My review is I LIKE this product and give it 5 stars as I highly recommend it.

I lost 8 pounds using Fitness Boxing 2 from Nintendo every day for 3 weeks. I have had extreme asthma since I was a little kid, and so it is hard to get fitness things to work for me. Fitness Boxing has intensity levels that you can adjust lower, and also it can be paused. Many videos and classes are “Olympic Level” or nothing, and many people just starting off get scared off. I loved all the levels and badges of Fitbit, but there is a limit to badges where the fitness gets boring again. Fitness Boxing 2 can be played with a Fitbit then gets your steps in for the day fast. Fitness games with music spice things up. Unfortunately my Nintendo’s main game playing Switch broke as I played so much, and it was many years old. I will resume it after buying a new model Switch.

Fortunately there are many videos on YouTube labeled “Fitness Boxing 2 Walkthrough” so you can easily do a low level routine off of YouTube. It does not have the fun instructor outfits to unlock, or badges to unlock, or instructor workouts that unlock song packages as the NIntendo game version. However it is a fun backup method when needed.

Nintendo is no stranger to mixing fitness, and games. A new example of how fitness, books, games, and movies have merged is the new Hogwarts Legacy game released February 10, 2023 that will be out on the Switch in November. It is by the same company that did the fitness game Wizards Unite with Ninantic that was a clone of Pokemon Go using wizards. This new game explores 1800s Hogwarts, and it is a prequel to even Fantastic Beasts so the graphics look amazing. Nintendo is the creator of the Pokemon games as well. This product line has a book series, video games, and a cartoon show. A great book from the series is “Pokemon Black and White Volume 1” by Hidenori Kusaka. This story shows you characters dreaming of getting low level Pokemon and taking them to higher levels. The original Pokemon games had a Pokewalker step counter in them that worked greatly like a Fitbit. This same marketing is used in many other fitness games like Fitness Boxing 2. People go on a journey to go from low levels to high ones.

Modern life is hazardous in that TV, video games, and cars tempt us to live a non-active life. Sitting still can cause heart problems, diabetes, and many other issues. As a kid I left the house, and walked and biked everywhere to meet other kids if I wanted to play a game. Anyone with a ball or bat could play rich or poor. Now kids barely twitch their fingers for hours. Rich kids only care about talking to and playing with other rich kids. Nintendo, Fitbit, and Garmin seem to be the few companies to notice how evil this can be. I started using Fitbit when I was heavily into playing World of Warcraft. On non-game days I got 4 thousand steps before a workout. On game play days I got barely 1,500 steps before I started adding in a workout. For kids it is worse in that swimming, biking, and tree climbing are completely replaced with indoor play. Nintendo has long fought this with Pokemon, W II Fit, and marketing other games with a physical side. My review is this is a great idea. My one idea on how this could go better is if they added a martial arts download packs. Why STOP at boxing? Help people learn even MORE moves beyond jabs and hooks with extra downloads for sale. I took a year of Taekwondo at school, and got a yellow belt. In-person class is expensive. If you are reading this and work for Nintendo, add martial arts download packs you can learn onto the boxing to make the game more perfect.

If you are looking for fitness fun to try to get a summer beach body I say give Fitness Boxing 2 a try. I did and I lost 8 pounds, and got some tummy shrinking going on. It is now my most loved summer video game with music download packs, levels, and outfits to unlock. I recommended it to all my Facebook friends.

Now onto email questions. Question 1) “What music do they play as you box?” There is royalty free music with the game, and you must use this game music to make a YouTube of yourself if you are doing a video review of the game. Songs you unlock playing the game include “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “YMCA” additional song packs are available online at Nintendo for $1.50 per pack including rock and pop-songs, and in packs of 20.

Question 2) “Do you dance more on Just Dance 2023 or Fitness Boxing 2?” This is a good question as Fitness Boxing 2 has you boxing in patterns greatly like “Just Dance” does dances. Like the right controller matches dance patterns in “Just Dance” the right and left controllers box on beat on the game.
